New Sports Venue in Heidelberg Bears the Name “SNP dome”
Heidelberg, January 27, 2020 – The new sports venue in Heidelberg, which will start operating this year, is called the SNP dome. The software company SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE signed an agreement in mid-January on the naming and partnership rights of the sports venue with a term of ten years. It can accommodate around 5,000 spectators and is set to become an important location in the Heidelberg area for both sports and cultural events. The SNP dome will serve as a training and competition venue for many sports clubs in Heidelberg and the surrounding area. For example, the basketball team MLP Academics Heidelberg will use it as their home venue and the handball team Rhein-Neckar Löwen as their second venue. School sports events will also be held in the venue. With the naming and partnership of the sports venue, the globally operating software company is further expanding its broad-based cultural and sporting commitment.

“SNP has been deeply rooted in Heidelberg since its foundation over 25 years ago. Therefore, social commitment in this area was very important to us from the very beginning,” says Dr. Andreas SchneiderNeureither, CEO of SNP. “I am particularly pleased that the SNP dome will enable us to help shape the sports and cultural landscape even more actively than before. For SNP, this is an important step that makes sense as part of our long-standing social commitment to promoting sports and culture.
“Popular and professional sports alike are getting a new home in Heidelberg: the SNP dome,” says Prof. Dr. Eckart Würzner, Mayor of Heidelberg. “I am delighted that the city has been able to acquire a globally active company headquartered in Heidelberg as the namesake. Dr. Andreas Schneider-Neureither has long been active in sports promotion with SNP. I think it’s great that he has now become involved in sports in our city in this way. Having the software and IT company SNP as the venue’s namesake also fits this place perfectly: the SNP dome is being built in the Heidelberg Innovation Park (hip) – the place where solutions for the digital future are developed.”
“In SNP, we have managed to acquire a Heidelberg-based company as the name sponsor for the sports venue – a company that stands for the sporting values of performance, team spirit and fairness,” says Peter Bresinski, Managing Director of GGH and BSG: “Sport connects many people – regardless of how old they are, what they do for a living or how much money they earn. The SNP dome offers excellent conditions for this, no matter if it is for school, club or professional sports.”
SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE has dedicated itself to organizations and projects in the fields of art, culture, charity and sports for many years now. As part of its commitment to promoting sports, SNP focuses on supporting organizations that stand out for their innovative approaches and their active work with young talent. Among other things, the company is shirt sleeve sponsor of the Bundesliga first league club TSG Hoffenheim as well as partner of the US golf professional and five-time PGA Tour winner Bryson DeChambeau.
State of construction work
Shortly before Christmas, the building was provisionally sealed from the outside in order to be able to proceed with the interior fittings in the winter months . At the moment, the building services are being installed, and the preparatory work for laying the floor of the venue is in progress. As soon as the weather permits it, the facade elements will be installed. In the lower third of the building, windows extending down to the floor will provide a view into the interior of the sports venue. In the upper area, gray panels will be installed as external cladding. In the future, the name “SNP dome” will appear here.
Accessibility
The entrance level of the new sports venue is about 1.50 meters above the surrounding squares:
It can be accessed via spacious steps with lateral ramps and is, just like the interior, completely wheelchair-accessible. Different levels separate the players from the visitors. The spectator area provides seats for wheelchair users including seats for accompanying persons as well as seats for visitors with visual and hearing impairments including the appropriate technical equipment. The needs and requirements of people with disabilities have been extensively taken into account in terms of the venue’s construction and the equipment installed.
Energy efficiency
The sports venue is a highly energy-efficient building that will make use of an optimized insulation concept and an airtight construction with a ventilation system and heat recovery system. A photovoltaic system on the roof will generate electricity for both the sports venue and the surrounding neighborhood, which is why it will be integrated into the local electrical grid. The building is connected to the district heating network and the district cooling station in the neighboring parking garage, so that the floor and the interior of the sports venue can be cooled down during Bundesliga matches and major events.
Owner and operation
The company GGH and its subsidiary BSG, Bau- und Servicegesellschaft mbH, have been involved in preparing and planning the construction of the new sports venue since the end of 2013. In 2016, the city council commissioned BSG to build and operate the sports venue. For an initial period of 30 years, the city of Heidelberg will lease venue capacity to school and club sports that can be adjusted and updated as required. In order to meet the usage requirements of professional sports and culture, coordinated operating concepts are being organized. BSG will act as the direct contractual partner for all project participants and provide its own employees for the technical operation and the overall management of the sports venue. The organization Heidelberger Kultur- und Kongressgesellschaft mbH (HKK) will manage events.
