Novartis achieves successful SAP BW carve-out with SNP
NovartisIn a strategic move to solidify its position as a leading pharmaceutical company, Novartis set out to spin off its generics and biosimilars division, Sandoz. The spin-off would enable both companies to pursue independent growth strategies. To complete their vision on the technical side, Novartis turned to SNP, a trusted partner with a proven track record of successful projects.
SNP carves out 5 TB of sensitive data
Due to the planned division spin-off, Novartis had to carve out one of their SAP BW systems storing 5 TB of sensitive data. According to the project requirements, part of the data had to be deleted from the system before the handover.
SNP consultants were given the task to copy the SAP BW system to the project landscape, remove the non-necessary Novartis data and then migrate the rest to the newly built Sandoz landscape. To do so, they used their in-house software CrystalBridge Transformation, while additional components were used in specific scenarios (Chamaeleon for re-modeling and SNP Validate for automated testing).
Because the SNP consultants involved in the project were working with highly sensitive data, Novartis required them to go through compliance training courses and certifications. While preparation for the carve-out was done remotely, consultants worked on-site in Switzerland during the critical phases of the project, especially when handling productive data.
Smooth go-live and seamless transition
Novartis planned for two go-lives: a technical go-live and a business go-live. After the technical go-live, Novartis had the chance to test the system and confirm everything was delivered according to the specifications. The testing phase went smoothly, and with no further adjustments needed, they went ahead with the business go-live.
In successfully performing the SAP BW carve-out for Novartis, SNP demonstrated the many benefits of working with a reliable partner for SAP projects. Novartis received post-go live support, ensuring a smooth transition to their independent SAP BW system and setting the stage for sustained success.
