SNP’s industrialized transformation approach accelerates global SAP S/4HANA® program at BSH

BSH Hausgeräte GmbH

The challenge

The BSH Group is planning to fully transform and modernize its global SAP ERP systems. The aim is to create a new IT landscape in the SAP S/4HANA environment that is consistent, flexible and easy-to-maintain in order to optimize business processes and make technological leaps in the future. BSH wants to migrate 39 production sites in Europe, the USA, Latin America and Asia to SAP S/4HANA. Due to the complexity of the project, the company has opted for a step-by-step (wave-based) approach. The staggered SAP S/4HANA roll-ins need to be as fast and cost-effective as possible. They require a highly automated and secure methodology to ensure that the data is accurate and traceable. Minimizing project disruptions is another crucial aspect, as they can lead to considerable additional costs.

Highlights

The software-based factory approach makes it possible to implement the SAP S/4HANA program by country, location or product group – saving time and money.

The BSH data transformation factory provides a sustainable and scalable infrastructure: Following minor template adjustments, the factory can deliver transformations via a digital assembly line. If changes are necessary, SNP incorporates them into the program at a later stage.

Thanks to the flexible SNP software and migration approach, additional migration objects that are identified as relevant during the program can be added to the scope with little effort.

During the enabling phase, the core BSH team will use the SNP software and build up its own analysis and data migration expertise to implement rollout activities independently in the future. This will make the entire S/4HANA program more cost-efficient.

Scope

  • Creating the migration plan, installing and defining the rule base in the transformation software SNP CrystalBridge®
  • Extracting data from the source systems via RFC based on the defined selection rules
  • Storing the data in a staging area that supports the concept of migration repetition
  • Performing initial data validation and verification
  • Transforming and converting the data based on defined migration rules
  • Loading the data into the target system

The solution

To make their major SAP S/4HANA program a reality and optimize their logistics processes, BSH have decided to leverage SNP’s expertise, software and industrialized approach, also known as a data transformation factory. The automation and scaling options will reduce the overall project duration, cutting costs in the area of data transformation and enabling BSH to introduce innovations from their roadmap more quickly.

Following the successful pilot project in Traunreut, Bavaria, SNP is continuing with the main project and establishing a customized BSH data transformation factory: SNP has developed a reusable template and rule base to migrate the master and transaction data as well as perform data validation while switching from the legacy ERP landscape to the new S/4HANA systems. The industrialized transformation approach is supported by SNP software, which offers real-time insights into migration phases, automated processes and direct user interaction. This will enable BSH to implement the new SAP S/4HANA systems simultaneously or in clusters – reducing system downtimes. Thanks to extensive knowledge transfer by SNP, the core BSH team can tackle key tasks such as cutover management after each data migration as well as involve regional employees in the various migrations.

The step-by-step data migrations will follow the selective approach (BLUEFIELD™): SNP is only transferring the relevant information, modules and organizational units. This will increase the data quality in the target system and unlock the full potential of SAP S/4HANA.

The benefits

  • By leveraging certified SNP software and the industrialized transformation approach, BSH can guarantee a faster and more cost-effective project.
  • The reusable template developed for the wave-based SAP S/4HANA migration will standardize the procedure, making it easier to implement high-quality parallel migrations more quickly.
  • Maximum flexibility thanks to the selective migration approach (BLUEFIELD™): SNP will only migrate the relevant data, modules and systems, then optimize the data quality in the target system.
